The University of Kansas is in the process of expanding it's online education offerings via distance education courses. The University's Continuing Education department already offers 150 independent study courses with about 120 offered online, but they don't want to stop there. The department is doing a self-evaluation, trying to determine how they can organize their distance education program in a the best way to facilitate the offering of more courses through online media.
The distance learning classes allow students to receive KU credit and utilize the same materials and methods that on-campus classes offer. The tuition rates are also the same, except for some additional course fees of $30 per credit hour. The revenue from this fee helps to fund the independent study program and goes towards developing and offering new classes.
