The online university you choose should meet your individual educational needs, whether you are pursuing an education degree online or something else.
There are some items you might what to check when choosing the best online university for you:
- Rankings. Check the Online Education Database (OEDb). It describes how online universities stack up in areas such as graduation rate, retention rate and financial aid availability.
- Reviews. Read articles published in collegedegrees.com. It is a quick reference to see an online university's background and reputation.
- Length of existence. An online school that has a solid reputation has usually been around for many years. Look closely at universities that pioneered online education and have developed successful and proven methods.
- Degree levels. Many online universities offer associate, bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. The best online universities will have the level of faculty capable of teaching even the highest degree levels.
- Programs offered. Make sure an online university offers the program you need.
- Accreditation. Check the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation web sites to see if an online university is accredited.
- Support services. You will still need real, hands-on career training through internships and/or help finding a job after you finish school. Can an online university help you with these?
- Technical services. How are technical problems addressed? Is there help after office hours?
